PlayStation Home Updating to 1.35, Getting FF13 Items

Tomorrow's update to bring more personalization options, along with Final Fantasy figures.

Sony is still hard at work supporting PlayStation Home, and is planning to roll out a new update tomorrow that will add several new features. The PlayStation.Blog outlines the additions, which seem to focus on ease of use for the virtual space. This will bring Home up to version 1.35, and Sony is touting it as a "streamlined interface." The feature list includes:

Favorites: Personalize your own section to make locating your favorite places quick and simple.
Personal Spaces: Your clubhouses and personal spaces are now right at your fingertips. The personal spaces you own and the clubhouses you belong to will be viewable in one convenient location.
Friends: Finding your friends in PlayStation Home has never been easier. View the current location of your friends in PlayStation Home, and then navigate there to enjoy the action together.
Explore: Browse all the spaces PlayStation Home offers. Finding a space that suites your taste and mood has never been easier.
Recommend: Keep up with what's hot in PlayStation Home. This regularly updated category will feature the newest and most exciting additions to PlayStation Home.

Though the new features focus on making Home faster and easier, it may not be enough to bring back the lapsed user base. We've heard recent reports that advertisers are pulling away from Home, so Sony is probably hoping this will bring in enough new users to attract advertisers. The company boasted over 12 million registered users of the virtual space, but didn't specify how many of them use it regularly.

Home will also see the addition of some new items tomorrow, to celebrate the release of Final Fantasy XIII. The purchasable goodies include a themed apartment, furniture, and figurines (above). Individual items include a sofa, table, chair, shelves, planter, figures of Cactuar and Tonberry, and stuffed animals. This should amply supply all of your Final-Fantasy-themed virtual sitting needs.

Just imagine if all the time and development that went into giving home away for free actually went into something good that was given away for free.  Doesn't it make you mad that Sony wasted all these resources that really aren't free and created a giant turd.  Just because it's free doesn't mean you didn't pay for it.

  • Cute tonberry, though...

I quickly lost interest in Home after my initial visit. I don't see a reason to go back to it, but I would totally buy that tonberry if I ever did.

I guess I must think the way I do because I don't pay any attention to hype at all then. Personally I can't imagine (no matter how big the hype is) someone sitting in their place getting excited over a freebie launch of something that just sounded like Second Life for PC.

I don't go into anything thinking it's going to be the greatest, so IMO Home does pretty much what I would have expected. It's a social area with areas where Sony can plug it's latest projects.

People who spend money buying items in HOME are retards. Keep encouraging game companies to charge people for stupidies that should be FREE. Morons.

People piss all over Home because Sony grossly overpromised and underdelivered.  They touted home as the biggest thing to hit the PS3, something that would "WOW" gamers across the globe.  They delayed it several times after its unveiling, and still delivered a half-baked, underwhelming experience.

If Sony hadn't hyped Home up so much, I doubt gamers would be so quick to poo-poo it.  Perhaps if they had kept quiet about it, been more fothcoming about discussing its features (or lackthereof) and announced it when it was actually ready for release, It might have gotten a warmer reception.  As it stands, Sony kind of shot themselves in the foot with this one (surprise, surprise), and really set themselves up for disappointment after hyping Home up so much.

  • It's funny

It's funny how people complain about stuff that's free to use all the time.

Home is just basically a social chat area. What do peope expect it to be, Uncharted Online or something?

And even this doesn't make me want to visit it again. I haven't seen much of a reason to use Home.

  • Who has time for Home?

I've got White Knight Chronicles, Heavy Rain, Final Fantasy XIII, and soon, God of War III that need to be played.

The Final Fantasy stuff could be cool though.
